GW&K Investment Management Announces Key Promotions

Jeffrey O. Whitney, Joseph C. Craigen and Michael J. Clare named partners of GW&K Investment Management.

Boston, MA – February 28, 2018 – GW&K Investment Management, a dynamic investment management firm offering active equity and fixed income investment solutions to meet the needs of a diverse client base, today announced that Joseph C. Craigen, CFA, Jeffrey O. Whitney, CFA and Michael J. Clare have been named partners of the firm.

In making the announcement, Harold G. Kotler, CEO and CIO of GW&K, said, “These appointments not only reflect recognition for the contributions that Joe, Jeff and Michael have made, but the firm’s commitment to recruiting and retaining highly talented professionals to ensure we continue to anticipate and meet the investment needs of our clients.”

A seasoned analyst, Joe Craigen serves as a portfolio manager for GW&K’s Small Cap Growth Strategy and is a member of the firm’s Investment Committee. He also serves as a research analyst on the firm’s Small Cap and Small/Mid Cap Core Strategies covering the Information Technology, Industrials and Telecommunication Services sectors.

Prior to joining GW&K in 2008 as an analyst, Craigen held research analyst positions at Citizen Funds and Needham & Company and was a research associate at Tucker Anthony. He has been in the investment industry since 1999. Craigen earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Harvard College. A Chartered Financial Analyst, he is a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society Boston.

Jeff Whitney, a portfolio manager for the GW&K Small Cap Value Strategy and a member of the firm’s Investment Committee, also serves as an experienced research analyst on the firm’s Small Cap and Small/Mid Cap Core Strategies. He has earned the CFA designation and has extensive experience covering the Financials and Real Estate sectors.

Before joining GW&K in 2005 as the first analyst to support the firm’s small cap effort, Whitney was an Assistant Portfolio Manager at ING Investment Management and a Vice President and Equity Analyst at JP Morgan Fleming Asset Management. He has been in the investment industry since 1992. Whitney earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Central Connecticut State University and a Master of Business Administration from Vanderbilt University. He is a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society Boston.

Michael Clare, who has been in the investment industry since 1999 and has been with GW&K since 2010, manages the firm’s institutional business channel and is responsible for business development, relationship management and establishing a strong presence for the firm in the institutional market.

Before joining GW&K, Clare was with The Boston Company Asset Management as a Vice President, Institutional Relationship Manager. Previously, he was Director of Client Management at Investors Bank and Trust and spent six years at Putnam Investments where he was responsible for servicing a variety of key institutional relationships.

Clare received a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from Arizona State University and a Master of Business Administration from Babson College, F. W. Olin Graduate School of Business. He is a member of the CFA Society Boston and holds the Series 7 and 63 licenses with FINRA.
